My second travel nursing assignment took me to San Francisco, CA.

I have been to San Francisco twice prior to this assignment so I wasn't too focused on doing all the touristy things this time around. My main focus was staying in my bag by learning as much as I could and working as much overtime as I could in preparation for a few special trips I plan to take in 2023!

Tbqh, I did learn quiet a few cool new labor nursing tips and tricks from the staff. But, what made this assignment the most memorable was the new friends and acquaintances I made. I myself am an introvert, but I found myself feeling very welcomed right away from the staff nurses on the floor. Probably because they're always short staffed and were just grateful for the extra hands they had, but I like to thing it was something about my sparkling personality LOL XD. Additionally, there were at least 8 other travel nurses who were on assignment on the same unit as me, so it was really cool to get to know other individuals from different areas with different types of training. The unit was comforting in the fact that many of the staff were actually previous travel nurses that decided to stay on as per diem or part time, so they knew how it felt to come into a new environment, learning new policies, getting used to the residents and attendings and the different ways in which management handles the day to day operations of the unit.

Even though I didn't do a lot of sightseeing, I did get an unlimited movie pass that I used every other week. I tried 2-3 new restaurants every week, took my dog to the beach for the first time, and met up with my old college roommate for lunch in Palo Alto. I started this blog and an Etsy store selling wall art. I learned more about macrame, financial independence, and started relearning french!

Overall, the experience was interesting and I'm very grateful that I decided to come. So much so that I decided to stay in the area but switch to a sister hospital. I think it will be interesting to see the difference in patient population and switching from a teaching hospital to a unit with more Midwives and lower acuity. Stay tuned for more updates on how my second stent in San Fran turns out. Thanks for reading!
